Janette Drysdale Makes A Splash At Gallows

There were red “sold” stickers galore at a striking new exhibition, Don’t Look Back, by  Perth contemporary artist Janette Drysdale.
On the sizzlingly warm opening night at Gallows Gallery in Mosman Park, visitors gravitated to the enticing swimming pools and seascapes in many of her paintings.
Janette, whose first solo exhibition was in 2017, is fast gaining an international following for her oil paintings.
Inspired by British pop artist David Hockney and the late Jeffery Smart, along with Claude Monet  and Mark Rothco, many of the works in this exhibition combine sleek architecture with coastal waterscapes or pools.
During a moving speech, Janette paid tribute to her nearest and dearest, including daughter Lauren, whose band Float added sparkle to the night, and husband Gerry, who’s recently overcome some serious health battles and worked like a Trojan to help her prepare for the showing.
“Hence one of the reasons for the name of the exhibition, Don’t Look Back… moving forward in a positive way,” she explains.
“My art is continuing to evolve and I’m enjoying this stage of the journey. My motivation comes from life, objects, light, perspective, shadows, buildings and colour. My travel brings new experiences on which to draw.”
Art lovers would do well to pop into Gallows at 53 Glyde St, Mosman Park and check out her work before the exhibition closes on February 2.
