The fictional meeting of two brilliant men takes place in the days just after Germany invaded Poland in 1939, at the start of WW II.
They debate the existence of God, atheism, sex, mortality, and relationships with family and associates. But the two talented actors in this film cannot save it from the disjointed narrative and repetitive flashbacks from the past and present.
Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins) “the father of psychoanalysis” and avowed atheist and C S Lewis (Matthew Goode), the famous British author of The Chronicles of Nadia and advocate of Christianity are the two protagonists with opposing thoughts.
Director Matthew Brown (The Man Who Knew Infinity) co-wrote the screenplay with Mark St Germain, based on the stage play by Mark St Germain, and the book The Question of God by Armand Nicholi.
It does provide some interesting insights into the life of Freud and his relationship with his daughter Anna (Liv Lisa Fries) which are not widely known.
