Film: Top Gun – Maverick

There were high expectations for Top Gun: Maverick and this movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski, has  delivered on all counts. It’s an action-packed thrill ride from start to finish.

Again playing US navy test pilot, Maverick, Tom Cruise’s acting is just as good, if not better, as it was in the original Top Gun, directed by Tony Scott nearly 40 years ago.

As the Hollywood superstar has kept himself fighting fit and in great shape, it’s believable that his charismatic character, leading a team of elite pilots on a seemingly impossible mission – raiding a nuclear plant – would still be flying jets and putting the young guns through their paces.
m
And no, you don’t need to have seen the 1986 Top Gun  to appreciate the movie. It’s quite easy to follow, and regardless of the storyline, quite aesthetically enjoyable!
m
The film is packed with aerial stunts in a range of fighter jets and the stunning F18’s.

Whilst the acting at times is a bit cheesy, the entertaining storyline makes up for it and the tale includes a few surprise twists.

The film has a stellar score with an 80’s feel through and through.

I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who loved the first Top Gun or is a fan of a thrilling action movie. It pays plenty of attention to the first film and manages to combine a hint of nostalgia with a modern take on the US defence force.

A must-see on the big screen.
