Watching Porn with Mum, Art For Animals and Yummy Fritters

Who watches porn with their 86 year old mother and her bestie?

I never had – until I went to a Saturday morning media film  preview with Mum recently. There we were, sipping our cuppas and gawking up at the screen, when a bulbous phallus emerged. And a couple of writhing naked humans.  Cue the gasping, prodding and pumping, ad nauseum.

On reflection, the film’s title, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn should have prepared us. But without my specs I’d thought it said Bad Luck Bonging.

Then again,  the screening was at Luna Leederville, not a seedy underground den in Kings Cross. In any case, I was hardly shocked, it was just a little unpalatable. Watching quivering lips lock around engorged genitalia to much grunting, doesn’t enhance the flavour of one’s rum and raison choc-top.
Not that Mum or Ros  were remotely phased by anything this film thrust our way in the film’s first few minutes. (Nor were cinematic juries worldwide, who’ve given this Romanian film several awards.)
Turns out the film was about a Romanian woman who’d made a sex tape with hubby, little realising it would end up on the world wide web. The parents and staff at the school where she taught were aghast.. Ros’s  review is in  this issue. (She gave it three and a half stars.)
Something I’m more enthusiastic about is For The Animals, the charity Perth  woman Rebecca Tilbrook set up in 2011 to help save some of the Asia’s most endangered animals. Rebecca and supporters have saved tens of thousands of animals and are protecting over a million hectares of forest.
We can all support Rebecca by attending her art auction, Art For The Animals this Thursday night and bidding for fine artworks donated by supporters.  Works by Picasso, Banksy, Charles Blackman, and other terrific artists are all up for grabs. We interview the wonderful Rebecca in this issue.
W also bring you a delicious recipe for corn and kale fritters from hit cookbook Egg Of The Universe.
A palatable vision indeed!
Enjoy!
