PLC Art Show Awash with Talent

 

 

 

It was standing room only as local art fans flocked to PLC for its annual Old Collegians Art Exhibition.

This year’s show, which kicked off on Friday night, was undoubtedly the biggest and best yet with a record number of artists submitting works of an impressively high standard.

 

Tessa MacKay’s piece Katie Noonan won the Francesca Nelson Prize.

 

The school gallery was ablaze with colour, shapes and images in various mediums from over 70 artists.

Works on display included those of budding young creators and pieces by well-established artists.

 

 

These included the winner of the 2019 Archibald Packing Prize, Tessa MacKay, Leon Pericles, Louise Farnay, Jacinda Bayne, Genevieve Montgomery, Aurelie Yeo and many more.

The exhibition, which ran through Saturday and Sunday, was officially opened Friday evening with a vibrant cocktail party.

Each annual exhibition continues to be a celebration of the creativity and vitality of the arts within the school community, and there were plenty of red stickers on pieces by the end of the opening event.

This year’s show included wonderful colourful and creative works of the Year Two  PLC students and Junior School Art Club in the Celebration in Miniature display.

 

 

All artworks were for sale, with the PLC OCA receiving a commission on each work to cover costs of running the exhibition and to support other activities.

Funds raised at the exhibition help provide bursaries for current students and other benefits for the school.

Raffle prizes were donated by Siobhan Way Fine Jewellery, Henri Living, Louise Farnay, Aromotherapy Lab and Dianne Caine Australia.

The $500 Francesca Nelson Memorial Art Prize was also awarded on the opening night to Tessa MacKay for her painting Katie Noonan.

The award is named in honour of this much-loved Old Collegian, past OCA President and school staff member.
