There’s something about tea and teapots that always pulls a crowd.
The Old Bakery on 8th Gallery is currently holding its fourteenth annual Tea Party exhibition of teapots.
Gallery Manager Kath Lymon says teapot collectors flock from far and wide for this exhibit, which features the creations of more than 20 artists.
“I’m amazed at the number of collectors,” she admits.
“When you say ‘teapots’ many people then reveal they’re a collector, or know someone who is.”
Lymon says a lot of artists love the teapot because of the challenge.
“You have to get the pot, the spout and the lid all working together, so everything fits well.”
But it won’t just be traditional teapots; glassworks and tea accessories will also be on display.
“Some are very imaginative and not always functional. In the past we’ve had teapot garden features and water features”, she says.
Tea-themed paintings from featured artist Kerri Blades will also be exhibited.
The most popular artwork will be awarded with a $100 cheque from Elmstock teas.
Tea Party runs until September 9th.
