Starfish movie buffs, we have five double passes to give away to the dramatic new film Danger Close – The Battle of Long Tan.
This powerful Australian movie, starring Richard Roxburgh, Travis Fimmel, Luke Bracey, and Daniel Webber, tells the true story of one of the most hard-fought and savage engagements in Australian military history. It unfolded in a rain-soaked Vietnamese rubber plantation at the height of the Vietnam War.
For three hours on August 18, 1966, Major Harry Smith and his company of 108 young and mostly inexperienced ANZAC soldiers fought off an overwhelming enemy force of 2,500 battle-hardened Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers. It was a story of heroism, tragedy and the sacrifice of battle.
When the fighting finally ended 18 Australians and at least 250 North Vietnamese soldiers were killed, possibly double that number. The Australian and New Zealand soldiers won many awards for gallantry for their brave efforts.
