Jazz singer Cathrine Summers

Vive Le France, and the healthy brain!

Are you ready for a night of dinner and cabaret in support of a cause fantastique this Bastille Day?

If so, come on down to the Cottesloe Beach Hotel this Saturday night for a dinner-dance fundraising gala.

Meeting for Minds, the international charity supporting mental health research is hosting the soiree.

Adding sparkle to the evening, chanteuse Cathrine Summers will be performing on stage in A Summer’s Night In Paris, as guests enjoy a three course meal with matching wines.

There will also be a raffle, door prizes and a silent auction.

And your attendance will assist a great cause: helping raise funds for vital brain research.

In the words of organiser Susie Hincks, “The primary objective of the event is to raise awareness of the latest research into the brain and brain disorders, focusing on mental illness.

“The 14th of July celebrates the French Revolution  – and we seek to foster our own revolution in the exciting and potentially life-changing area of research.

“This is a mental illness and brain research awareness and fundraising evening and each table will have a local researcher and someone from M4M to answer questions about current research.”

M4M is the brainchild of Maria Halpen, founding president of the Philippe and Maria Halpen Foundation, based in Paris, under the auspices of the French Academy Of Science.

Maria was inspired to set up the foundation after a trip to Perth to visit her mother.  While in town, she met up with her old friend Susie Hincks, who told Maria she had lost most of her twenties due to schizophrenia. Susie also spoke of her concerns about the stigma of mental illness.

Profoundly moved by Susie’s story, Maria began developing a vision for change; a conversation that could lead to better and longer lives for mentally ill people everywhere.

The foundation’s scientific research involves people who have experienced mental illness “not just as test subjects, but as partners; as we believe their unique perspective enhances, and adds a sense of urgency, to the research.”
