Nobody knows skin like our Beauty Ed, makeup expert Gail Wilton. Here she tells us how to prevent turning into a prune when you’re on a plane.
Who wants their skin to be drawn and dried out when they step off the plane?
Follow my tips, and you’ll look like an English Rose every time you alight.
I’ve come u p with a list of my best travel tips to stay hydrated, dewy and fresh at 40, 000 feet. Here goes!
First, on the flight,, drink lots and lots of water. A great bottle to take is the “Bobble” available at Woolworths and other stores. It’s fab because it has a charcoal filter you can fill it with water from any safe source, then you have filtered water anywhere, anytime. Ensure that you pack the essentials in your carry-on bag or handbag. You will need easy access to them on a plane or in the car. Did you know that the atmosphere on a plane is dryer than the Sahara desert? This is probably why we all feel so tired at the end of a flight. My list of Flying Essentials are as follows.
(Remember, no more than 100mls of the following if you’re flying and it needs to go in a clear plastic bag.)
Take a small water spray bottle along with you. Add some drops of rose oil, or powdered milk to your water. Yourr face will stay freshly hydrated and sweet-smelling. (Buy face spritzers if you like, but these home made ones are just as good.) Sray it over your makeup if you feel dry, though, on long flights I tend to like taking my makeup off once i’m settled, and just wear light moisturiser. Tinted moisturiser or BB creams as they call them now, are great because you skin looks amazing and fresh and you don’t feel like you’ve got foundation.
I RECOMMEND:
Loreal Revitalift Total Repair 10 BB Cream.
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 Luminating
If you like a bit more cover , take a foundation that is hydrating but will stay on. Stay-on foundations are great, because they create a seal between your skin and the atmosphere.
I LIKE:
Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation
Revlon Age Defying DNA ADVANTAGE SPF20
Maybelline Super Stay Makeup
Clinique Repairwear Anti-Aging Makeup SPF15
Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Makeup
Ever felt that your nose stinging or your head throbbing on a flight? This is due to the very dry atmosphere. Just take a tube of paw paw cream with you andc oat the inner nostils. Yes, it sounds weird, but it stops your nasal passages drying out and it can actually help resist nasty bugs flying around in the air. Also take a nasal spray with you. Just a simple saline solution like Fess.
Take Frequent Flyers Immune Booster or Arma Force and make sure you start taking them a few days before flying, then on the day and when you get into the air. They really do help boost your immune system and you feel great. The Jet Lag seems to be reduced as well.
Take a little bottle of lotion for you hands, legs, arms etc.
I like Nivea skin lotion. The one in the navy blue bottle. In my opinion, it’s the best body lotion, hands down.
I also love the Neutrogena Hand cream. It’s a silicone based one and really makes your hands look amazing.
Lip glosses are a must as well.
I love the new Loreal Gloss called Shine Caresse that stays on and leaves a gentle stain to the lips ,so your lips are hydrated and always look like you’ve just touched up your makeup.
Make sure you pack in your suitcase a PedEgg of some sort. You can get them from Priceline or $2 shops or online…. You will always need this device when you travel with all the walking you will do. It’s compact and will have your feet feeling amazing. Just put a bit of your Nivea moisturiser on afterwards and you’ll have hydrated, smooth comfortable feet throughout your trip.
Ok…. now don’t forget the holiday skin tanning moisturisers.
These are great and maintain the holiday glow.
Try Palmers, Loreal, or Dove. Some have SFT15 in them so you can do the moisturising and the block out in one go.
.Palmer’s Coaoa Butter Bronzer is a sunless tanner and Instant Bronzer + spf 15 all in one handy 150g tube. I love, love, love this product!
Lastly, remember your eyes take a beating as well on the plane. You will need a good moisturizing eye drop as they get very dry and sore.
The best ones my Opthamologist recommended to me are Systane Ulta lubricant eye drops or Genteal Moisturising Eye Gel.
Ok now all you need to remember is to relax, enjoy the ride and have a cocktail for me.
Until next time,
Happy flying!
Gail
