Film: Blind Ambition

This is an uplifting documentary about four refugees who flee from crisis-ridden tyranny in Mugabe’s Zimbabwe to try and find a better life in South Africa – and become the country’s best sommeliers.

Joseph, Tinashe, Marlvin and Pardon find work in restaurants where their mutual interest in wine tasting develops into a passion, and an ambition to form a wine tasting team and enter a World Wide Tasting Championship (well-known in the industry) in France, where teams are asked to blind-taste 12 different wines, and name the country, winery and the year of the vintage.

Their entry is unusual in this establishment of privilege and tradition, but their dreams, enthusiasm, perseverance and love of their country are unwavering and appreciated by other competitors’.

Australians Warwick Ross (Red Obsession) and Robert Coe raised the money and crew and arranged permission to make the film which will bring attention to the wine industry.

This inspiring film won the Audience Award  for Top Documentary Feature at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
